mikhail loskutov

Photographer working at the intersection of interiors, architecture and commercial projects. Based in Moscow, available for assignments worldwide.

biography & approach

Mikhail Loskutov is a photographer focusing on interiors, architecture and commercial stories for brands, design studios and magazines. Over the past years he has photographed private apartments, houses, showrooms, restaurants, boutiques and offices, as well as advertising campaigns where space becomes part of the narrative.

His background is rooted in visual culture: before turning fully to photography, Mikhail worked with graphic design and editorial projects. This experience still shapes the way he looks at a space — as a sequence of carefully composed frames rather than a single “hero shot”. Attention to scale, rhythm and typography informs the way he builds an image: clean lines, controlled light and clear storytelling are always at the centre.

Mikhail enjoys working as part of a team with architects, decorators, art directors and stylists. Every project starts with a conversation: what should this place say about the brand or the owners, what needs to be shown to the press, potential clients or guests, and which details create the mood. Only after that the schedule, shot list and technical side are planned.

Way of working

The process is deliberately calm and structured. Whenever possible Mikhail visits the location in advance or works from drawings, to understand how light behaves during the day and which angles reveal the logic of the space. Natural light is always preferred, with artificial sources added only when they help the story — not just for the sake of brightness.

On set Mikhail combines precise architectural views with more intuitive details: a surface catching evening light, a still life on the table, a reflection that ties several rooms together. This balance between documentation and atmosphere makes the images work both for magazines and for brands’ own communication channels.

Post-production is kept subtle: colour and contrast are adjusted to match the real materials, while keeping enough depth for print and digital use. The goal is not to create an idealised render, but to show how the space actually feels when you are there.

What clients usually ask for

Depending on the project, the assignment may include a classic interior series, hero images for a launch campaign, social-media-oriented verticals, portraits of the team in context, or a full visual story for an editorial feature. Mikhail often works together with art directors who already have a global brand guideline, but can also help build a visual language from scratch for new spaces and companies.

Deliverables are usually prepared in two versions: high-resolution files for print and carefully optimised web versions ready for websites, newsletters and social media. Where needed, Mikhail can coordinate work with magazines and agencies, supplying the material in the format they require.

selected areas
  • Interiors & architecture — apartments, houses, country homes, lobbies, public spaces.
  • Commercial & retail — restaurants, cafés, bars, boutiques, showrooms.
  • Editorial projects — features for design and lifestyle magazines.
  • Brand stories — campaigns where interior is part of the product narrative.

On collaboration

Mikhail is open to commissions in Russia and abroad. For new projects it is helpful to share a short description of the space, example images or references, desired timing and how the photographs will be used. Based on this, a tailored proposal and schedule can be prepared.
